A few years ago, while feeling very stressed about the state of the world, I started colouring in. I got myself some lovely pencils and off I went. It took me back to my girlhood doing paint-by-numbers, colouring with my mother, and arguing with a friend at school over whether pink was made by colouring red over white or white over red. We brought the teacher in to adjudicate and she agreed with my friend. Grrrr. I’ve never got over it. We were six.
